Understanding your Insurance Policy

Reading your insurance policy can feel overwhelming — it’s full of technical terms and fine print — but understanding it is key to knowing what’s covered, what’s not, and how to protect your rights during a claim.  When you hire Paragon Public Adjusters, we will interpret your policy  for you.

Your Declarations Page is your “snapshot” summary showing your name, address, policy number, coverage limits, deductibles, and the specific forms and endorsements(read exclusions) included. Think of it as your policy’s table of contents.

Endorsements Explained

Endorsements, sounds like a good thing - right?  Unfortunately, endorsements are almost always bad when talking about your insurance policy.  An endorsement is a change or modification to your coverage. Think of it like fine print that can either help you or hurt you — depending on what it says.

Sometimes endorsements add coverage (that’s good!) — like increasing limits for jewelry, or adding protection for backup of water or sewer.  But more often, endorsements are used to take coverage away, limit what’s paid, or change important definitions. That’s where things get tricky — and sometimes downright unfair.

For example:

An endorsement might exclude coverage for certain types of roof damage.

It might change “replacement cost” to “actual cash value,” meaning you’ll get less money; or it might add new requirements or deductibles you didn’t realize applied.

That’s why homeowners should be on high alert any time they see the word “endorsement.” It’s the policy’s sneaky way of saying, “Something in your coverage just changed.”

In short:

Endorsements are the fine print that can quietly rewrite your insurance policy. Always read them carefully, and don’t assume your original coverage stayed the same — because that one word can make a big difference when you file a claim.
