Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will my insurance premium go up if I make a claim?
Florida Statute § 626.9541 prohibits insurers from raising premiums or canceling policies for accidents or claims where the insured is not at fault or is not significantly at fault.
However, a history of filing multiple claims (even for "Act of God" events) can make you appear riskier to an insurer and lead to premium increases, as each claim is recorded in the Comprehensive Loss and Underwriting Exchange (CLUE) database. Also, be aware that premiums can rise for everyone in a high-risk region, not just those who file a claim.
Will my insurance company drop me after this claim?
In Florida, an insurance company generally cannot cancel your policy simply for making a claim after 90 days if premiums are paid, but they can choose not to renew (non-renew) your policy, especially after multiple claims or if fraud is involved, though special protections exist for single hurricane claims, preventing non-renewal for 90 days post-repair. They can cancel for fraud, misrepresentation, or non-payment, and may non-renew for excessive claims or increased risk, but can't use a single storm claim as the sole reason for non-renewal.
How much do you make?
The state of Florida allows public adjusters to earn 20% of the insurance settlement unless a state of emergency has been declared and then the state of Florida allows 10% of the insurance settlement. Here, at Paragon, our fee ranges from 10% to 20% of the amount recovered from the insurance company, depending on the situation. To learn more about our fees, please see our "How We Get Paid, in Plain English" page.
Will it take longer to get my property repaired if I hire you?
Paragon Public Adjusters focuses on accuracy and fairness — not speed — because fast settlements often leave significant money on the table. Insurance companies know the quicker they close a claim, the less they pay. We take the time to thoroughly investigate, document, and negotiate your loss so you receive every dollar you’re entitled to. With that said, it usually takes less time when you hire a public adjuster because we stay on top of your loss.
